Todd’s Journey
Todd Colvin’s journey to becoming a professional voice actor is one of passion, purpose, and a profound love of storytelling. With a unique background that spans the disciplined world of military service and air traffic control to the creative world of radio shows and acting, Todd brings a masterful blend of calm authority, quick-witted intelligence, and genuine warmth to every project.
A native of the town where he currently resides and works, Todd’s path began in the U.S. Air Force, where he spent 10 years serving in three different capacities. He loved his time in the military, but a desire to be closer to his growing family led him to cross-train as an Air Traffic Controller. His job as an Air Traffic Controller, which requires a masterful knowledge of regulations and a level head in times of extreme stress, proved to be an excellent fit for his temperament and skills. It also instilled in him a calm, confident communication style, the very same qualities that make for a compelling and trusted voice.
Pursuing Passion
While his day job as an Air Traffic Manager demands precision and a steady hand, Todd has always been drawn to the creative arts. From his early days in radio, doing commercials and remote broadcasts, to his amateur stage acting experience, Todd has long used his voice to entertain and connect with others. Encouraged by a high school English teacher who saw his potential, he nurtured a love for creativity and the art of performance. He discovered a knack for doing voices for his seven children and became known as a ‘class clown.’
The final, and most profound, catalyst for Todd’s leap into voice acting came from the tragic loss of his youngest son, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver at the age of 13. His son’s courage, determination, and passion for life pushed Todd to pursue a lifelong dream and make a living doing something he is truly passionate about. This personal journey is at the heart of Todd’s work, imbuing his performances with a genuine sense of humanity and emotional depth that listeners can feel.
A Teenager At Heart
Beyond the microphone, Todd’s personality is a blend of seasoned wisdom and youthful energy. At 54, he’s a self-proclaimed “teenager at heart” who loves video games, 3D printing, and computers. He and his wife share a great passion for motorcycle riding, and have traveled cross-country, exploring the world “through sunglasses and not a windshield,” discovering the country’s hidden gems on back roads. When he’s not in the studio, he can be found working out, riding bikes, camping, or simply spending time with his family.
Todd’s voice is authoritative yet approachable and warm, making him a perfect choice for corporate narration, commercials, and audiobooks. He is known for his ability to translate complex information into an easily digestible and engaging narrative, a skill honed by his years in air traffic control.
